Mull & Weithman Architects was hired in 2018 to assist the Ashland Fire Department in evaluating the property on the south-east corner of State Route 42 and Mifflin Avenue as a possible location for Fire Station No. 2. As part of this process we conducted a series of surveys to review the staff’s expectations for the new station, conducted a space needs assessment, completed programming, and presented our findings to the Department and City. We explored different site layouts and site access from Mifflin Ave and Route 42.

The resulting design offers the Department 12,208 square feet and includes dormitory space for six firefighters, administration spaces, 2-1/2 apparatus bays and related support spaces.

A historic display area was incorporated into the design to celebrate the Department’s historic 1928 Seagraves truck.
